Nacogdoches Treatment Center is a non-profit organization. Primary funding comes through donations, memorials, the United Way, vendor fees from various agencies, grants and volunteer quilting fees.

A large portion of support also comes from fundraising events such as our annual Craft Bazaar in November, our poinsettia sale during December, and our Loblolly Liberator Bike Ride in the spring. Other events, including a benefit concert, are held to raise additional much-needed funds.

Benefit Concert

Jan. 18, 2008 Concert: Holly Springs Baptist Church, 16928 N US Highway 59, (936) 559-5511. Concert begins at 7 p.m.

This special fund-raising event began in November 2002 and has featured an evening of gospel and holiday music.

This year's event will take place in Jan. 18, 2008 at 7 p.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church near Nacogdoches and features the award-winning Talley Trio and Mark Trammell Trio.

The Talleys have headlined the benefit concert for the past three years before a standing-room only crowd. The gospel favorite Mark Trammell Trio joins the Talleys this year for a wonderful evening to raise funds for the Treatment Center.

The family trio is one of gospel music's most beloved groups. They are regularly featured on the Gaither Homecoming videos and have appeared with Rev. Billy Graham, Rev. John Hagee and Rev. Charles Stanley.

Trammell, who has been called one of the greatest baritone singers of all time, has traveled and sang southern gospel music for more than 30 years as a member of some of gospel music’s most acclaimed groups, including the Kingsmen, the Cathedrals, Greater Vision and Gold City.

Five years ago, Trammell formed the Mark Trammell Trio, which features tenor Eric Phillips, lead Dustin Sweatman and renowned musician/vocal instructor Steve Hurst.

Journey consists of Cadie Reneau of Garrison, Lauren Lackey, Delaney Scaief, Ally Fuller, Hope McLain and their voice instructor Mary Anne Oglesby, all of Nacogdoches. The group has been singing for the past seven years at festivals, churches and previous benefits for the Nacogdoches Treatment Center.

Journey

The Talley Trio and Mark Trammell Trio will headline this year's Benefit Concert. They will be joined by local group Journey. The concert will be at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18 at Holly Springs Baptist Church near Nacogdoches, TX.

The unique name of the bike ride, Loblolly Liberator, originated from one of the Treatment Center’s employees, a paraplegic who participated in his first bike ride benefit—a 25-mile course—with a hand cycle. "Loblolly" is a type of pine tree that is native to our East Texas area; "liberator" represents the experience of being released.

The programs at the Nacogdoches Treatment Center focus on helping free—or liberate—people from their barriers. The bike ride features five different courses (a 10-mile, 30-mile, 53-mile, 77-mile and 100-mile). All proceeds go to fund the NTC. The great thing about the bike ride is that anyone can get involved.

One way to participate in the Loblolly Liberator is to ride. Biking through East Texas is a great way to spend a Spring day. You can participate as an individual, or get a team of co-workers, friends and family members to join in the fun.

If bike riding isn’t for you, why not offer your time on event day to help out? Plenty of opportunities exist for volunteers. Helping staff rest stations or driving ‘pick-up’ wagons for riders who may need assistance are just a couple of ways you can help.

If time won’t allow your physical participation, consider fiscal participation. The Loblolly Liberator is a fundraiser designed to support the programs of the NTC. While we do hope the event attracts numerous participants, we also depend on the event to assist the Treatment Center financially.

Craft Bazaar

2008 Bazaar: Nov. 13-14, 2008 at Nacogdoches Treatment Center

The annual Craft Bazaar is our most popular and successful event. Crafters meet at the Center on Thursdays to work in a group, but most of them also work on items at home and bring them in just in time for the Bazaar. All of the crafters are volunteers who make handmade items from mostly donated materials.

Our craft Bazaar is held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the second Friday in November every year. Special Thursday night hours will be posted closer to event.

Come early, shop, order your Christmas poinsettias and eat lunch.

The Bazaar features quality hand-made crafts, a bake sale, a quilt raffle, a silent auction, quilts, hand-made aprons, knitted and crochetted items such as afghans. A chicken spaghetti luncheon also is served.
