Programs:
The programs offered at the Nacogdoches Treatment Center are designed to help clients live as independently as possible. The executive director is the primary authority over all programs, employees, public relations, fund raising and problem solving. Funds are obtained from grants, monetary donations, vendor fees from various agencies and the United Way for the support of our non-profit organization.

Alzheimer’s/Dementia Day Activity Program

This program provides daily activity while mentally stimulating the clients in a fun and entertaining manner. Our program coordinator holds an Activity Director Certification and an Activity Specialist Certification.

In addition, there are several volunteers assisting in the activities and care of clients. Our area has been remodeled so the environment is secure and safe for the clients. The program is designed for constant supervision and attention to clients who participate in activities which include light physical exercise, word and trivia games, music, singing, bingo, simple art projects and other mind-stimulating activities. We typically have 10 to 20 clients daily.

The program runs Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. until 2 p. m. Van transportation may be available. This provides caregivers with a few hours of worry-free time.

Caregivers can also participate in a"Caregiver Support Group." This group is for family and friends who with Alzheimer’s Disease patients or persons with other forms of dementia. The group meets the last Friday of each month, from noon until 2 p.m. Lunch is provided. Attending the full two hours is not required.

The Deep East Texas Counsel of Governments – Area Agency on Aging, provides some funding for many Alzheimer's and dementia clients. Fees are determined by number of days in attendance and ability to pay, however, no one is turned away if ability to pay is the determining factor in utilizing these services.

Independent Living Program

NTC contracts a service coordinator to assist individuals with disabilities in living independently. This university degreed employee also is a paraplegic and works with a specific independent living facility in the community. Approximately 70 individuals with severe disabilities live independently in this HUD affiliated housing complex. For resident convenience, the housing complex provides office space for the coordinator on their premises. This is a HUD grant program.

Our service coordinator is skilled in searching for various services offered by the community, state and federal government to aid individuals with disabilities for their specific need in order for them to maintain independent living. Information that can be provided includes advocacy, education, benefits/entitlements/insurance, management problems, mental health services, transportation services, meal assistance, physical attendant care, substance abuse counseling, alternative housing, equipment needs and other related topics.
